Nowadays the Institute comprises: 12 scientific departments, 2 scientific-auxiliary departments, 12 auxiliary subdivision, a Special scientific and technical branch, Center for collective use, Editorial of scientific journal "High pressure physics and technics".

Those wishing to study at the post-graduate courses hand in an application addressed to the director of the Institute and also enclose the following documents:
- a researcher's questionnaire and a photograph;
- a list of the work published (those who have no published works submit a summary by the specialty chosen);
- a copy of the work-book, a salary reference;
- an extract for the minutes of the Council meeting for those recommended for studying at the post-graduate courses by the higher school (faculty) councils immediately after graduating from the higher school;
- a certificate of health state (Form 286-u);
- a copy of the diploma about graduating from the higher school;
- four photographs of 3x4 cm in size;
- opinion of the supervisor;
- a post-graduate student record card;
- a copy of the identification number.
